How to set up gamma levels in your trading platform
The two ways daily gamma levels reach a chart — a free native indicator or a universal import — which route your platform uses, and the fastest one for your setup.
Daily gamma levels are only worth anything if they are on your chart before the open. The good news: getting them there is a two-minute job on almost every platform, and you only have to learn the method once. This page is the hub — it explains the two methods, tells you which one your platform uses, and points you at the fastest route. It does not matter whether you trade SPX and NDX options or ES and NQ futures; the levels are the same numbers, and they drop onto any chart the same way.
The short answer: two methods, every platform
Every platform uses one of two methods — a free native indicator that reads the levels for you, or a universal import where you paste the daily values and draw them as lines. Native indicators exist today for NinjaTrader 8, TradingView and Jigsaw; everywhere else (Sierra Chart, Bookmap, and any other charting tool) you use the universal import, which takes a couple of extra minutes but works literally anywhere. Both methods start from the same place: the daily levels published on the Gamma Axis dashboard each morning.
- Method A — native indicator (fastest). Install a free Gamma Axis indicator once. From then on it either auto-refreshes from your API key or plots a single pasted set of levels. No drawing by hand.
- Method B — universal import (works anywhere). Copy the day's levels and add them as labelled horizontal lines on any chart or ladder. Slower, but there is no platform it can't reach.
Which method does my platform use?
Pick your platform from the table below and you will know immediately whether you install an indicator or import the values by hand.
| Platform | Method | Auto-refresh? | Typical setup time |
|---|---|---|---|
| NinjaTrader 8 | Native indicator | Yes — via API key | ~3 min (once) |
| TradingView | Native indicator | Paste daily levels (auto on Supporter) | ~2 min |
| Jigsaw Daytradr | Native indicator | Loads the daily file | under 1 min |
| Sierra Chart | Universal import | Manual daily | ~2–3 min |
| Bookmap | Universal import | Manual daily | ~2–3 min |
| Anything else | Universal import | Manual daily | ~3 min |
Not sure what the levels themselves mean before you plot them? Start with the cornerstone explainer: what are gamma levels?
Method A — install a native indicator
The native route is the one to choose whenever your platform supports it, because once it's set up the morning work is close to zero. The idea is the same across NinjaTrader, TradingView and Jigsaw: add the free Gamma Axis indicator, point it at your account, and let it draw the full set of levels for you.
- Sign in to your Gamma Axis account and grab your personal API key (NinjaTrader) or the daily levels / indicator link (TradingView, Jigsaw).
- Install the free indicator for your platform following its dedicated step-by-step guide on the blog.
- Confirm the levels appear for today's session — walls, the GEX magnets, and the high-volume-level (HVL) flip should all be labelled.
- Repeat tomorrow — or, on a Go Supporter plan, let the key refresh the levels automatically so the new map is waiting when you open the chart.
Each supported platform has its own walkthrough with screenshots and a video; search the blog for your platform name to find it.
Method B — import the levels into any platform
If your platform isn't on the native list, you import the exact same levels in a couple of minutes: copy the values from the dashboard and recreate them as labelled horizontal lines, which every serious charting tool supports. The full routine — line by line, with alerts and a reusable template, plus how to bulk-import on platforms that allow it — is covered in its own guide: import your gamma levels into any platform. Platform-specific walkthroughs exist for Sierra Chart and Bookmap.
Make it automatic (and why the levels move)
The one part of this you can't skip is refreshing the levels every day — because the map is only valid for the session it was built for. Gamma positioning rebuilds as dealers' options exposure changes, so yesterday's call wall is not today's. Pasting a fresh set each morning handles that for free; if you'd rather not touch it, a Go Supporter plan (€19.90/mo) lets the API key auto-refresh the native indicators and unlocks the full history so you can see how the levels behaved on prior sessions.
Avoid these setup mistakes
Most "the levels don't work" complaints trace back to a setup slip, not the levels. The three that come up most often are easy to prevent.
- Stale levels. Plotting yesterday's map is the single biggest error. Refresh before the open, every day.
- Wrong instrument. SPX and ES levels are related but not interchangeable tick-for-tick; load the set that matches the chart you trade.
- Mislabelled lines. On the manual method, keep the dashboard's order and names so a magnet isn't mistaken for a wall.
FAQ
Do I need to pay to put gamma levels on my chart?
No. The indicators are free and the daily levels are published on the dashboard. A Go Supporter plan (€19.90/mo) adds automatic refresh and full history, but the basic setup costs nothing.
Which platforms have a native Gamma Axis indicator?
NinjaTrader 8, TradingView and Jigsaw today. Every other platform uses the universal import method, which produces identical levels.
How often do the gamma levels change?
Daily. They are rebuilt from the latest options positioning, so you replace them each morning rather than leaving them on the chart.
Can I use the same levels for futures and options?
Yes — the map is read on the index (SPX, NDX) and applied to the matching future (ES, NQ). Load the instrument set that matches your chart.
